Pálava Straw Wine dominated its category at the Oenoforum conference

All possible statistics show that Pálava is an extremely popular Czech wine variety at home and abroad. The fact that Pálava from Sonberk is extremely good as well is also shown in competitions on both sides of the border. A few weeks ago, we wrote about the success of the sweet Pálava 2018 at the American competition. Now we have one big news from another international competition held in the Czech Republic. At the recent Oenoforum 2020 conference and competition, our Pálava Straw Wine from the year 2018 won among naturally sweet wines.

The grapes for this wine were harvested in September 2018, then dried on sieves under our wavy roof, and the juice was squeezed from them after five months, in February 2019. The result is a dessert wine for special occasions. It has almost 210 grams of sugar per liter, smells of dried fruit and oriental spices, and candied peaches and ginger tastes.

"It's a classic from Sonberk, certain to take the world by storm and get better over the next decade or two," Mike Mazey wrote on the wine label. He is an American wine expert who helps domestic winemakers penetrate the English-speaking world.

What makes us very happy about the success at the Oenforum is that it is a competition organized in the Czech Republic, but under the auspices of the OIV (International Organization for Wine and Viticulture) based in Paris, and therefore international. Its goal is, among other things, to compare wines from the Czech Republic and abroad, so the better news of winning the category is.
