The joy of PWT: The freshman and the French specialty were successful

In the last round of the Prague Wine Trophy, a prized domestic competition that compares Czech wines with foreign ones, the jurors picked up our already known but still non-traditional Sémillon-Sauvignon and the brand new Pálava Noble rot. Besides, the year's overall evaluation shows that our wines are among the best in the categories where we participated.

"We are pleased that the evaluators have finally discovered its great potential," comments our Dáša Fialová 92 points and the Prague Premium Gold award for cuvée made in the manner of those from Bordeaux.

From the pair of our cuvées, the traditionally more robust Chardonnay & Pinot Gris is traditionally stronger in competitions. Still, Sémillon of the year 2017 paired perfectly with the conditions the year 2017 gave it. "It is fascinating to follow the development of individual wines over the years and how they reflect the character of a particular year. After maturing in barrels, the vintage 2016 looks more creamy, while 2017 retains a more fruity character, which is what suits Sémillon," emphasizes Dáša.

The evaluators drew even higher points for our freshman this year, the botrytic Pálava Noble Rot. In the category of naturally sweet and fortified, this wine with 62.3 grams of residual sugar even gained 94 points. "When we were still in the process of thinking about this wine, there were different variants of what it will look like, especially in terms of the amount of residual sugar. This final form was the first try - Olda took it as his first variant, and David, our sommelier, enthusiastically agreed," says Dáša.

The fourth round of the Prague Wine Trophy was the last in 2020, which means that all wineries' overall evaluation was also taken into account. We came out again with the highest possible rating of five stars, and especially with the knowledge that twelve of our wines won the Prague Premium Gold award. In the competition, where domestic wines are compared with foreign ones, they are among the best. We would typically celebrate it right away at a gala tasting, which usually takes place in January. But due to pandemic measures, it is now postponed to June, so keep your fingers crossed that it really will happen.
