WHAT WAS THE YEAR 2019 LIKE AT SONBERK, PART ONE

Right in the beginning, we experienced the greatest joy: We won our category of the Winery of the Year competition

January

People don't go to the winery so much, but we go out and collect prizes. At first, we received information that for the 14th time in a row, this time with Riesling 2015 VOC, we got the place in the collection of 101 best Czech wines called the Wine Salon. This great joy was followed by an even bigger one. We won the category of medium producers in the competition Winery of the Year.

Regardless of achievements, wine does not make itself. Our vineyard manager Roman Slouk and his colleagues run around the vineyard and work on the winter cut, so everybody can see rows of piles left in between. In this activity Roman has a big experience, so he is also judging in Czech Republic's winter cut championship. Meanwhile, our winemaker Olda Drápal squeezes the grapes for the Pálava straw wine. And our marketing director Dáša Fialová goes with a selection of Sonberk wines to London. It´s because our British importer Ellis Wines organizes gala tasting.

March

We can´t stand winter any more, so this time we open the season twice. First, we join the Hustopeče almond festivities and at the very end of the month, we have the official opening of the season with the tasting of wines from the archive. We also introduce the new Sauvignon and we host a visit from web TV channel Mall.TV.

April

One of the most beautiful and photogenic times of the year in the vineyard. Almond trees and apricots bloom around the winery. We celebrate Easter by hiding eggs around the winery for children and bottles of wine for their parents. We have also received the results of an analysis made with the help of a drone, so we can see which places of the vineyard are the driest. According to the results, we can adapt further land management.
