On Friday, there was a big presentation of a guide entitled The Best Wines of the Czech Republic. You can come across it in various places. Even we at Sonberk are proudly browsing through it and we will be exhibiting it, because our wine has received a special award. For the first time in six years, the evaluators of the famous Czech project organized by wine experts awarded the title Collection of the Year. And we got it!
“It was a collection that presented absolutely top and balanced wines. Except for one wine, all the others got over 90 points, so they are from the category of extraordinary,” explains Michal Šetka, one of the organizers and evaluators.
The wineries in this competition receive none to three stars depending on their quality. Sonberk boasts all three from the beginning, but since it came to the evaluators as a lack of appreciation for Sonberk, they came up with a new title for the best collection. According to Šetka's experience, the similar quality of individual samples is certainly not a matter of course.
“People say that the quality of Czech wine producers is improving, which is partly true. But I have a feeling that the gap between producers is dividing. Some wineries are stagnating and sinning to their former glory, so they send to us a collection with one of two excellent wines and the rest of the average or worse,” explains.
