Sonberk also tastes Young Winemakers

For the past four years, there has been an association called Young Winemakers in the Czech Republic. It was founded to promote modern wine-making practices and winemaking concerning nature, grapes, and wine lovers and importing foreign trends and their representatives into the Czech Republic. That is why last week a conference of the association took place. Members of the group chose wines that reflect their philosophy in the best way. “The aim of the competition is to show the wines that most appealed to the new generation of winemakers in the Czech Republic and which have the potential to succeed among young people,” Eva Pelikánová, the vice-chairwoman of the association, explained the meaning of the competition. Her words are even more important to us because one of the wines that received much attention is ours. Blend Chardonnay & Pinot Gris 2016 won the award for the best white wine in the competition.

“It is a great honor for our winery, and success is also very positive news. Some people consider us to be a more conservative winery, so we will be happy to show that our wines also taste to young people,” said Dáša Fialová, our sales, and marketing director. Although Sonberk can no longer rank among the members of the association due to age restrictions, we follow a similar wine philosophy. We were even more pleased with the evaluation of one of the judges. Mojmír Baroň from Mendel University wasn´t afraid, and in a blind tasting, he pulled a mythical hundred for our blend. In total there were 253 out of 63 Moravian and Czech wineries in competition. It was Sonberk cuvée Chardonnay&Pinot Gris 2016 (94 points), Riesling 2017 VOC (86,67 points) a Sémillon/Sauvignon 2016 (86 points).
