At the Prague Wine Trophy Merlot was a star

If some company in the Czech Republic wants to pursue its wine only competitions, it could do it all year round. There are many competitions according to various criteria, but not all are worth it. One of the genuinely esteemed ones is the Prague Wine Trophy, an almost year-round contest in which Czech and foreign wines are measured mainly according to varietal categories. This year's competition ended a few weeks ago. There is a degustation in Prague at the Jalta Hotel today, where the best will be shown. For us, mainly Merlot.

It is this wine in its varietal category that tasted the evaluators of all Czech and foreign wines and won the highest possible award Prague Wine Champion. Outside of Merlot, the Prague Wine Trophy was especially appreciated by wines with higher-level residual sugar - Prague Premium Gold was awarded the Riesling 2014 and Pálava 2016 straw wine. “All of them gained more than ninety points. And that is why we apply for the Prague Wine Trophy, so there is no such wide-ranging comparison with foreign wines in Czech Republic,” emphasizes our marketing and sales director Dáša Fialová. Also important is the status that Sonberk has at the Prague Wine Trophy - we hold the rating of a five-star winery, which points to the fact that the point average of our three best wines again got over 90.
