There are plenty of wine competitions in the Czech Republic and abroad, but some of them are more interesting than others, and then those whose results are of interest to everyone in the field. The competition is the London Decanter World Wine Awards. This year, 17,000 wines from all over the world entered it, and the Czech and Moravian ones earned one gold, 13 silver and 39 bronze. Great news is that Sonberk has two silver and two bronze medals. "With this year's medals for domestic wines, the commission seems to have set a higher bar. That we got twice 90 points and thus two silver medals and two more bronzes for 88 points is great news, ”says our cellar master Olda Drápal, who always tries to send the best he has to this competition.
We won two silver medals for Riesling 2017 VOC and Riesling Noble Rot. Two bronzes are for Riesling 2016 VOC and Merlot 2016. And three of our wines got the "commended" label, so some jury praise. Specifically, it was cuvée Chardonnay & Pinot Gris 2016, Pálava 2017 VOC and Tramín 2017. “Unlike other competitions, it is not a rule that a lot of wines will get the name of the commended, as well as the winemakers have to do a lot,” explains Olda. the jurors noticed the cuvée of Chardonnay and Pinot. His previous years have already received a number of awards. This is the first for the 2016 edition and more can be expected.
280 samples from all over the world rated entries and the results will be published in a magazine that is distributed to 100 countries around the world.
