You probably have this experience from your gardens. Or from other jobs. When things are done properly at the beginning, it is much better, and the results correspond to that. We try to do it like that in the vineyard. From the winter cut to the tying, and to the simultaneous hoeing of the vineyard. At least the last-named step will give us favor in a good way throughout the year.
There are different approaches to the vineyard. Someone has only strips of soil between the rows without vegetation, but we have been leaning towards various dense meadows. They care for diversity and dry out more slowly than the dark soil that attracts the sun. But where the meadow flower has nothing to do, it is the immediate vicinity of the individual heads of the vine. "No grass or weeds may come to them. They would later take away the light and space from the grapes. In addition, we would later have to look for grapes among the weeds," points out our vineyard manager Roman Slouk.
All this is the reason why now his assistants, with the help of mechanization, are digging one head after another, especially in the oldest part of the vineyard. The more they dig, the fewer herbicides we need to use – we in Sonberk try to avoid them as much as possible.
Would you like to see and experience all this? We look forward to seeing you at Sonberk.
