Adriena Šimotová (1926-2014), one of the most respected personalities of modern Czech visual art, is not only the favourite graphic artist of our cellar master Olda Drápal, but also visited Sonberk personally. Her works are part of collections of world importance. She is one of the few Czech artists represented in the Centre George Pompidou in Paris, in museums in Stockholm and Tokyo.
Almost ten years after meeting at Sonberk, our common story continues. We have become partners in an exhibition organised by the International Centre of Graphic Art in Ljubljana under the auspices of the Czech Embassy in Slovenia. It was here that Šimotová was awarded the Grand Prize of the Ljubljana Biennial of Graphic Arts in 1979.
The current retrospective exhibition is entitled Encounters. Touch and Imprint. The curator of the exhibition is Pavel Brunclík.
Šimotová is known for her human-centred work and is renowned for her specific artistic techniques. Her work is strongly influenced by her own life. In the beginning she focused on landscape painting, later on figurative subjects and after the death of her husband and son she focused on working with paper and textiles.
