We have such a tradition on Sonberk's blog. We always start looking back at the old one around the New Year. Because even in 2020, a lot of good things happened that we will remember. For example, it brought us the most significant competitive success in the history of the winery.
SEPTEMBER
The month of harvest and the greatest Sonberk's success this year. The laboratory analyzes determined that the first variety, traditionally the Moravian Muscat, will be collected on September 8. Unlike last year, when the berry had to be picked up carefully by hand, the Muscat has an exemplary quality this year. The world competition evaluators, Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, who come to visit us, also see this. Other analyzes and evaluations have decided that Sonberk has become the most successful Czech winery this year at the world's most famous Decanter World Wine Awards. For the Riesling Noble Rot, we even gained 97 points on a 100-point scale. At the end of the month, we count the number of this years' visitors to our concerts, and we get to a number exceeding four thousand. Thanks again for that.
OCTOBER
During the harvest marked by the rain, the organizers of the Prague Wine Trophy competition send to us a great message. Our only red wine, Merlot, received 92 points and the title of Prague Regional Champion. This means that there is no better wine of this variety in the Czech Republic in competition. We experience other pleasant moments right at home. The weather caused the harvest to shrink in a smaller number of days, so suddenly, the number of pickers was not enough for us, and there was a risk that we would not be able to pick the grapes on the Pálava straw wine. But when we turned to our Facebook fans for help, we had the required number of people in a few hours.
NOVEMBER
We are improving a time full of uncertainty with the new Moravian Muscat 2020. As always, it is ultra-dry, so reaching for it means that people get what they expect. Besides, we have one novelty. Coincidentally, in the year when the botrytic Riesling Noble rot won so many awards, we proudly present the botrytic version of Pálava. If it is just as successful, the next months will show. But the current edition of the guide to the Best Wines of the Czech Republic gives us great hope. We are there again and again among the best-rated wineries.
DECEMBER
New French barrique barrels are "parked" in front of the winery, and we pack one Christmas carton after another. A massive amount of orders compensates the absence of corporate parties. We are glad that we can be part of the pre-Christmas joy in the workplace and families, and we have decided to improve it a bit more. We are organizing Christmas parties online for the first time with several groups. And we are chasing another novelty before the end of the year. For the first time in the history of Sonberk, we also had our T-shirts made. So, to whom would you give one with the words "I mature like Riesling."?
